About the role

The IT Operations Support Admin I performs technical and operational duties in support of SFPUC’s mission-critical IT environment. Responsibilities include monitoring, resolving, and escalating IT incidents and service requests, and coordinating with SFPUC IT teams and City partners. This role supports the specialized technological needs of the Power, Wastewater, and Water enterprises, ensuring efficient, resilient, and secure IT operations at field locations and plant sites.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 100% dedicated, hands-on, 5 days a week on-site technical support to ensure immediate resolution of hardware and infrastructure issues.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving network, hardware, and desktop software issues (Tier 1 support).
  • Deliver specialized IT support and system maintenance across various SFPUC field sites and operational facilities.
  • Log, monitor, and track all IT requests and incidents within the ticketing system, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution.
  • Partner with remote site administrators to diagnose technical issues and deploy IT service requests across locations.
  • Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of desktops, printers, and other computer peripherals.
  • Deliver exceptional, professional, and courteous customer service to all end-users.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR equivalent course credits (at least 60 semester or 90 quarter credits, with a minimum of 20 semester or 30 quarter credits in computer science or a closely-related field).
  • Substitution: Experience performing analysis, installation, and technical support in a network environment may substitute for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to 2 years). One year of experience is equivalent to 30 semester or 45 quarter units, with a minimum of 10 semester or 15 quarter units in computer science or a closely-related field.
  • Completion of a one-year State (DAS) Information Technology apprenticeship program equivalent to the City and County of San Francisco’s 1090 IT Operations Support Training Program may substitute for the required education.
  • Valid California Driver’s License at the time of hire.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Tier 2 desktop support experience.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Experience supporting mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops).
  • Experience supporting users with cloud computing and virtualization products.
  • Experience developing and documenting standard operating procedures.
  • Experience using remote technical support tools.

Selection Process

  • Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ) as part of the application.
  • Behavioral Consistency Questionnaire (BCQ) Evaluation (100% weight) conducted in-person at 525 Golden Gate Avenue, San Francisco. Measures knowledge, skills, and abilities in job-related areas, including:
    • Oral and written communication.
    • Technical, operations, programming, and analytical problem-solving support.
    • Logic and analysis to solve systems problems.
  • Eligible list created based on final scores; valid for 12 months (may be extended).
