About the role
Follows the engineering design process to provide complete IT solutions including hardware, software, configuration, and process based on collaboration and analysis with stakeholders, best practice, and best-value solutions. Leverages advanced knowledge in multiple technologies; collaborates with peers to analyze performance of components and systems to troubleshoot, evaluate performance, and determine capacity. Uses root-cause analysis, corrective actions, tactical planning, and strategic planning to correct problems, provide improved response, and project long-term investments required to provide sufficient support for IT services to the business.
Maintains the infrastructure to assure compliance with configurations, patches, and approved designs. Actively participates in the change-management process to properly execute change with minimum impact to the services provided. Participates with IT peers as needed to properly support the IT infrastructure on a 24×7 basis, including on-call duties, shift work, and emergency support; travel to various locations away from the employee’s primary work site may be required.
Develops standards and guidelines that promote best-of-breed operation and maintenance practices. Develops and implements policies, procedures, and associated training for managing infrastructure, resources, administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery. Additional duties include participation in audits, security reviews, incident investigations, and presentations for TVA at professional events. May serve as a work leader in a non-supervisory leadership position, having job-related responsibilities to lead project assignments in a broad or specialty area.
Responsibilities
- Provide complete IT solutions (hardware, software, configuration, process) through collaboration and analysis with stakeholders.
- Analyze performance of components and systems; troubleshoot, evaluate capacity, and plan long-term investments.
- Maintain infrastructure compliance with configurations, patches, and approved designs.
- Participate in change-management process to execute changes with minimal service impact.
- Support 24×7 IT infrastructure, including on-call duties, shift work, and emergency support; travel as required.
- Develop standards, guidelines, policies, procedures, and training for infrastructure management, administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery.
- Participate in audits, security reviews, incident investigations, and professional presentations.
- Lead project assignments in a non-supervisory capacity.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, business administration, or related field; or equivalent education, training, and experience supporting comparable tools.
- Completion of approved TVA Progression Plan or 24–48 months of comparable and relevant work experience.
- General understanding of business environment (budgeting, lifecycle costing, customer support).
- Several years of comprehensive experience supporting large, multi-dimensional systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of transformation impact, change management, and business metrics.
- Strong facilitation, negotiation, and intervention skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to challenge and influence teams in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment while dealing diplomatically with internal and external partners.
- Ability to maintain elevated clearances such as NERC/CIP, Sensitive, and/or Nuclear Fitness for Duty.
Skills
- Advanced knowledge of middleware platforms (e.g., Web Application Servers: IIS, WebSphere, WebLogic, Tomcat, Apache; Business Intelligence: COGNOS, Tableau, OBIEE; Integration: TIBCO, SSAS, SSRS, SSIS, Informatica; Mobile Computing Platforms including SOA and security confirmation/management).
- Advanced knowledge of first- and third-party cloud hosting solutions (e.g., VMWare, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure).
- Advanced knowledge of platforms supporting major enterprise applications (e.g., Maximo).
- Advanced knowledge of content and collaboration platforms (e.g., OpenText Content Server, MS SharePoint).
- Advanced knowledge of email platforms (e.g., Outlook).
- Advanced knowledge of Windows, VMWare, and Unix-based operating systems.
- In-depth knowledge of a broad range of management, compute, and networking technologies.
- Ability to work with or lead cross-functional teams of IT professionals.
- In-depth working knowledge of TVA High Availability Systems and/or Critical Infrastructure.
