IT Network Specialist II

The Pennsylvania Treasury Department is an independent agency led by the elected State Treasurer and one of the largest state treasuries in the country, serving as custodian of more than $150 billion. Treasury plays a critical role in state government operations, acting as the custodian, investor, and disburser of funds for nearly all state agencies. Treasury also offers a wide range of programs and services to Pennsylvania families, including the PA 529 College and Career Savings Program; the PA ABLE Savings Program for people with disabilities; and returning more than $4 billion of Unclaimed Property to its rightful owners.

About the role

This position focuses on managing advanced network operations and supporting complex systems that serve the Pennsylvania Treasury. It involves hands-on work with hardware, security tools, and performance monitoring to keep essential services running smoothly.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain routers, switches, servers, firewalls, and network cabling
• Monitor network performance and optimize efficiency using approved tools
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex network, server, and firewall issues
• Support telecom systems, videoconferencing tools, and storage networks
• Develop, implement, and maintain network security mechanisms
• Maintain file recovery and file backup systems

Schedule

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch
• Hybrid schedule: 3 days in the office (Harrisburg headquarters) and up to 2 days telework per week
• Telework requires a securely configured high-speed internet connection and an approved location inside Pennsylvania

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year as an Information Technology Generalist 1; or
• Two years of technical experience providing IT user support (applications development, business process analysis, network and desktop PC support) and an associate degree in computer science, management, computer or business information systems, microcomputer technology, information technology, desktop technology, or a closely related field; or
• Four years of technical experience providing IT user support (applications development, business process analysis, network and desktop PC support); or
• A bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 18 credits in computer science, management, computer or business information systems, microcomputer technology, information technology, desktop technology, or a closely related field; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training

Additional Requirements:

• Experience installing and configuring network hardware (routers, switches) to ensure reliable connectivity in a professional environment
• Experience using network management tools to monitor performance and troubleshoot network issues
• Ability to perform essential job functions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience installing or configuring server and/or network hardware
• Maintained file recovery and backup systems
• Configured and maintained firewalls to protect network infrastructure
• Supported telecommunications or videoconferencing systems
• Diagnosed and resolved complex network problems using specialized diagnostic tools
• Provided user support or consultative expertise regarding network resources
• Holds a CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA certification
• Actively learning new technologies and adapting to changing technical requirements
