The company works to raise living standards globally through more affordable, secure, and environmentally friendly nuclear energy and innovations in medical isotopes. Founded in 2006 by Bill Gates and a group of visionaries, TerraPower’s mission is to be a world leader in new nuclear technologies while developing innovators and future leaders in the nuclear field.
About the role
TerraPower is seeking an IT Manager, Application Development to lead a team responsible for maintaining and optimizing the enterprise application portfolio—primarily commercial off‑the‑shelf software on Windows infrastructure with some Red Hat Enterprise Linux. This hands‑on leadership role bridges technology and business, ensuring applications effectively support engineering, operations, finance, supply chain, and corporate functions.
Responsibilities
- Lead the team: manage, coach, and develop up to eight systems engineers and analysts; set clear expectations, provide frequent feedback, remove obstacles; own hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development; build a bench, not just headcount; balance workload across departmental priorities, project commitments, and production support; provide stakeholder updates; create conditions for good work with clear ownership, reasonable on‑call rotations, documented runbooks, and schedule slack.
- Own the application portfolio: serve as operational owner for a portfolio of COTS applications (availability, performance, patching, upgrades, licensing, lifecycle planning); maintain portfolio data required for enterprise lifecycle management; plan and execute upgrades and migrations with testing, rollback, change control, and user communication; partner with Architecture, Infrastructure, Information Security, and Data Management on server platforms, identity and access, backup and recovery, monitoring, and data integration.
- Deliver projects: lead application implementations and enhancements from requirements through deployment and stabilization, working with internal stakeholders, implementation partners, and vendors; manage software vendors and integrators, holding them to scope and schedule, escalating effectively, and overseeing contracts; build real working relationships with department leaders, understand their processes, and differentiate between requested and needed functionality; establish sensible service levels, intake processes, and prioritization mechanisms; champion adoption, training, and documentation to realize value.
- Operate in a regulated environment: ensure application changes follow established change management, documentation, and quality requirements; support compliance obligations related to records management, export‑controlled information, cybersecurity controls, and audit readiness in partnership with Information Security, Internal Audit, Legal, and Quality.

- Preferred: experience in a regulated or engineering‑driven industry (e.g., nuclear, aerospace, energy, defense, life sciences).
- Preferred: experience with EDMS, EAM, PLM, or engineering application portfolios.
