IT Helpdesk Technician II
About the role
Van Cleef Engineering is a dynamic, multi-disciplined firm of Engineers, Certified Inspectors, Landscape Architects, Planners, and Land Surveyors. We are committed to creating a personal and professional environment where we can build and focus on helping communities through teamwork and support. Due to our continued growth, we are currently seeking an IT Helpdesk Technician II to provide hands-on, on-site IT support across our offices, working alongside our internal IT Team and our managed service provider (MSP) to keep staff productive and systems running smoothly. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys varied, hands-on IT work—hardware, account administration, networking basics, and vendor coordination—across multiple physical sites.
Responsibilities
- Resolve onsite IT tickets in our ticketing system—hardware setup and configuration, printer and peripheral support, minor low-voltage/network cabling, and general desktop/laptop troubleshooting.
- Follow up with our MSP on open or escalated tickets to ensure timely resolution; keep ticket notes and status updates clear and current.
- Support new hire onboarding and departure offboarding: laptop imaging and setup, Microsoft 365 / Entra ID account provisioning and license assignment, Intune device enrollment, and mobile device setup, coordinating closely with HR.
- Provide first-line troubleshooting for Windows 11, Microsoft 365 apps (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel), network connectivity, printers, and VoIP handsets, escalating to senior staff and MSP as needed.
- Assist with day-to-day support of office networking equipment (switches/access points, basic firewall and VPN connectivity issues) under the direction of senior staff.
- Track and manage IT inventory—logging equipment as it's received, deployed, or returned across all office locations.
- Participate in vendor calls and help coordinate invoices with Accounts Payable.
- Support business continuity and disaster recovery activities, including delivering, setting up, or relocating equipment (including storage/backup devices) at all office locations.
- Support onsite visits related to IT projects, equipment installs, office relocations, and vendor evaluations.
- Provide occasional after-hours or weekend support for urgent IT issues, on a rotating basis with the wider IT team.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Equivalent hands-on experience, personal/home lab projects, or relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certified) will be considered in place of a degree.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in IT support, help desk, or technical operations.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams), Windows operating systems, and basic hardware troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with laptop setup/imaging, user account provisioning (Active Directory and/or Entra ID), and equipment inventory tracking.
- Familiarity with a professional ticketing system (Autotask, Jira, or similar) preferred.
- Basic understanding of networking fundamentals—Wi-Fi troubleshooting, DHCP/DNS basics, VPN connectivity.
- Strong customer service mindset with clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple tickets and priorities simultaneously across several office locations.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50+ pounds as needed.
- Willingness to travel regularly between New Jersey and Pennsylvania office locations.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Availability for occasional after-hours or weekend support when required.
