IT Engineer (NYC)
About the role
FieldGuide IT is a people-first, technology-second IT services provider. Our clients, ranging from small businesses to large enterprises, rely on us for IT strategy and support. We've transformed the image of the traditional "IT guy" into a team of passionate professionals who are dedicated to helping people and sharing their knowledge about technology.
Responsibilities
- Solve problems for real people. Cater your assistance to the individual in front of you, regardless of their role within the organization.
- Troubleshoot Mac and Windows systems. Dive deep into issues that aren't resolved by simple fixes, such as configuration profiles, domain join failures, encryption issues, and network connectivity problems.
- Deploy and configure hardware and software. Install and configure devices, push applications using MDM, and set up users' tools to meet their expectations.
- Keep networks humming and conference rooms running. Maintain and upgrade networks, ensure connectivity between client offices, and make sure conference room AV works on the first attempt.
- Document everything thoroughly. Stay updated on the tools your clients use and write clear, detailed documentation to guide your team.
- Show up in person across NYC. Visit client offices in New York City, collaborating with your FieldGuide team to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
- Partner with other teams. Work closely with the xBoarding and Programs & Strategy teams to contribute technical expertise to larger projects.
- Work in a flexible schedule. Based out of Manhattan, you'll work a Monday-Friday schedule with infrequent weekend availability.
Requirements
- 1-3 years of experience troubleshooting or supporting complex products and technology, or equivalent education.
- A passion for service and a desire to help people solve their problems.
- Genuine comfort with both macOS and Windows, and the ability to explain how you would approach troubleshooting problems in either environment.
- An interest in solving problems and puzzles, and a knack for troubleshooting unexpected issues.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills to translate technical issues into understandable explanations for non-technical clients.
- A collaborative spirit and a habit of documenting your work to support your team.
- The ability to maintain composure in high-pressure situations.
- An understanding of the importance of security and the need to balance access levels.
Qualifications
- Passionate about technology and its impact on people.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, evolving environment.
- Able to set personal biases aside and focus on solving the client's problem rather than winning an argument.
Skills
- Experience with collaboration and productivity suites (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace Admin, Slack Admin).
- Knowledge of identity and access management tools (Okta, JumpCloud, Rippling, 1Password, Lastpass, Bitwarden).
- Experience with device management solutions (MDM: Addigy, NinjaOne, Hexnode, Jamf, Kandji).
- Understanding of security and compliance tools (CrowdStrike Falcon, Drata, Vanta).
- Experience with networking and conferencing hardware (Ubiquiti UniFi, Cisco Meraki, Logitech).
- Knowledge of cloud, development, and business platforms (AWS, GCP, GitHub, Salesforce, HubSpot).
