About the Role

A fellowship opportunity is available in the Office of Laboratory Systems and Response (OLSR) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. This fellowship provides hands-on training in the coordination, development, and implementation of advanced software systems. Through mentorship and experiential learning, you will gain experience integrating, interpreting, and analyzing data from multiple systems to support organizational decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Train in configuring software applications and tools to support current business processes.
• Gain experience gathering software and systems requirements.
• Learn data modeling, data mapping, and data transformation.
• Train in developing reports utilizing data visualization tools.
• Gain experience with metrics and statistical analysis.
• Learn to employ industry-standard techniques to implement IT systems.
• Gain experience using security compliance to implement IT systems.
• Train on improving processes through the configuration and utilization of IT systems.

Learning Objectives

• Configure software solutions that align with organizational goals and business processes.
• Apply statistical tools and techniques to analyze data.
• Create data visualizations and reports to identify trends, correlations, and patterns.
• Gain experience gathering system requirements and developing documentation.

Under the guidance of experienced mentors and subject matter experts, you will build practical skills in software implementation, data analysis, and business intelligence while gaining insight into how these capabilities support public health operations and strategic decision-making.

Appointment Details

Anticipated appointment start date: November 11, 2026. Start date is flexible and will depend on a variety of factors.

The appointment will initially be for one year but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC and is contingent on the availability of funds.

The appointment is full-time.

Qualifications

The qualified candidate should be currently pursuing or have received a bachelor's degree in one of the relevant fields (e.g., Computer Science or an equivalent Information Systems/Technology degree). Degree must have been received within the past five years or anticipated to be received by 12/31/2026.

• Degree: Bachelor's Degree received within the last 60 months or anticipated to be received by 12/31/2026

Candidates must certify that they have not previously been employed by CDC or by a contractor working directly for CDC. Exceptions may be granted for individuals who, since the previous CDC employment, have obtained a new STEM degree necessitating training in a new field.
