About the role

An Information Technology (IT) Auditor participates in the audit, analysis, and testing of IT controls across various computing environments. Duties include assisting in audits, compiling statistical data, monitoring IT projects, determining compliance, preparing reports, and suggesting improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in conducting IT audits or other IT engagements at State agencies, educational entities, and local governmental units.
  • Reviews and evaluates automated systems and internal controls.
  • Necessary testing and related procedures are conducted.
  • Compiles general statistical data.
  • Makes recommendations for statutory and budgetary requirements.
  • Prepares reports and recommendations for suggested changes.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

Knowledge of accounting, auditing, and relevant professional standards, IT system requirements, research techniques, laws, regulations, and administrative requirements. Proficiency in using a personal computer, ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data, plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments, effective communication, confidentiality, understanding and applying rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, problem-solving, interviewing, handling confidential information, maintaining objectivity, making sound judgments and decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting and 30 semester or 45 quarter hours in excess of those required for a 4-year baccalaureate degree, meeting the educational requirements of the Florida State Board of Accountancy for licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (one year of relevant professional experience may be substituted).
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university in management information systems or information studies with an emphasis in information technology.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, management information systems, or information studies with an emphasis in information technology and one year of relevant professional experience.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in another field of study and possession of a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) certificate or a master’s degree in business administration and one year of relevant professional experience.
  • Possession of a CPA certificate accepted by the Florida State Board of Accountancy.

Benefits

The minimum salary for IT Auditor, the entry level classification, is $52,008. There is a $4,752 annual area differential for official headquarters assignments in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties and a $1,776 annual area differential for official headquarters assignments in Lee, Sarasota, Hillsborough, Orange, and St Lucie Counties. Individuals possessing a Certified Public Accountant certificate accepted by the Florida State Board of Accountancy, a CISA certificate, or qualifying work experience may be employed at above the entry level.
