About the Role

We are seeking an Enterprise Data Architect who will help define the enterprise-wide data strategy, architectural principles, and standards necessary to execute the organization's strategic Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced analytics roadmap.

Responsibilities

  • Define and govern the principles, standards, and blueprints for all data architecture components, including data lakes, data warehouses, and data integration platforms.
  • Design and enforce enterprise data modeling techniques, such as Dimensional Modeling, Data Vault, and relational schemas, to support robust business intelligence and predictive systems.
  • Evaluate, select, and define the appropriate use cases for modern cloud data platforms (e.g., in Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS)) and Extract, Load, Transform (ELT)/Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) tools to support high-volume data ingestion and processing.
  • Develop data security architecture, governance frameworks, and quality standards to ensure compliance with National Nuclear Security Administration requirements and protect sensitive information across the data environment.
  • Collaborate closely with the AI Solutions Architect to ensure the data platform is optimized for machine learning feature engineering, model training, and efficient model serving.
  • Provide expert guidance and mentorship to Data Engineers on optimizing complex data pipelines and implementing resilient, performant data structures.
  • Lead architectural planning for major enterprise system modernization efforts, guiding data migration and transformation strategies.
  • Document and communicate complex data architecture decisions, data flows, and governance policies to both technical teams and senior leadership.
  • Stay current with industry trends in data architecture, Machine Learning Operations (MLOps), and cloud-native services to drive continuous improvement in the enterprise data capability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • OR Master's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline.
  • OR applicants without a bachelor's degree may be considered based on a combination of at least 10 years of completed education and/or relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience focused specifically on enterprise data architecture, data modeling, and large-scale data systems.
  • Master's degree in a relevant technical field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring to Data Engineering or BI teams.
  • Certifications in relevant cloud data architecture (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics, Azure Data Engineer, Data Vault).
  • Knowledge of enterprise security and compliance standards for data handling in highly regulated environments.
  • Proven expertise in defining data modeling methodologies (e.g., Dimensional Modeling, Data Vault, Third Normal Form (3NF)).
  • Demonstrated experience with cloud-based data platform services (e.g., AWS, Azure) and a strong understanding of ELT/ETL principles.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
