About the role

The County of Solano seeks a Senior Network Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the County's enterprise networking environment. This role serves as a trusted advisor to County leadership, technical teams, business stakeholders, and technology partners.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain secure, resilient, scalable, and high-performing network services supporting critical public services.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and solutions that balance security, performance, availability, operational supportability, cost, and long-term sustainability.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to County departments and IT teams.
  • Collaborate with vendors and technology partners to ensure alignment with County objectives.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of network policies and procedures.
  • Lead the assessment and implementation of Zero Trust principles, cloud networking, hybrid connectivity, and SD-WAN.
  • Perform network monitoring, performance analysis, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in network engineering, including experience with Cisco routing and switching, wireless networking, firewalls, network security, and Zero Trust principles.
  • Experience with cloud networking, hybrid connectivity, and SD-WAN.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and evaluate new technologies.
  • Strong understanding of network automation tools and techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) certification preferred.
  • Experience with network automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Puppet.
  • Knowledge of network security protocols and best practices.
  • Experience with disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Experience with network performance analysis tools.
