Responsibilities
- Maintains, monitors, and optimizes data center infrastructure, servers and storage systems
- Ensures high availability and reliability of critical systems through proactive monitoring and maintenance
- Affords assistance in developing and implementing disaster recovery plans to safeguard University data and operations
- Assists with capacity planning to ensure the data center can meet current/future demands
- Independently analyzes and resolves complex technical issues affecting operations
- Provides advanced-level support for escalated issues from other IT staff or users
- Uses innovative approaches to troubleshoot problems while balancing competing policies or constraints
- Manages medium to large-scale projects involving system upgrades, migrations, or new implementations
- Collaborates with senior staff to design solutions that align with University goals
- Tests and deploys new technologies while ensuring minimal disruption to end-users
- Documents project plans, timelines, and outcomes for future reference
- Works with vendors to evaluate products that meet University requirements
- Manages vendor relationships to ensure timely delivery of services or products
- Oversees the integration of third-party solutions into existing systems while maintaining compatibility
- Manages software licenses for purchased products used within the data center environment
- Ensures compliance with licensing agreements and University policies
- Tracks license usage and recommends renewals or upgrades as needed
Requirements
Minimum: Requires a bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field; two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Preferred: Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Server+, Amazon AWS, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate), experience with system administration and IT infrastructure management is preferred.
Qualifications

- Of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix)
- Of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Of documentation and training development
- Of IT infrastructure, including servers, operating systems, and network devices
- Of troubleshooting and resolving technical issues
- Of user account management and data security
- Of collaborative project team work
