Responsibilities

  • Maintains, monitors, and optimizes data center infrastructure, servers and storage systems
  • Ensures high availability and reliability of critical systems through proactive monitoring and maintenance
  • Affords assistance in developing and implementing disaster recovery plans to safeguard University data and operations
  • Assists with capacity planning to ensure the data center can meet current/future demands
  • Independently analyzes and resolves complex technical issues affecting operations
  • Provides advanced-level support for escalated issues from other IT staff or users
  • Uses innovative approaches to troubleshoot problems while balancing competing policies or constraints
  • Manages medium to large-scale projects involving system upgrades, migrations, or new implementations
  • Collaborates with senior staff to design solutions that align with University goals
  • Tests and deploys new technologies while ensuring minimal disruption to end-users
  • Documents project plans, timelines, and outcomes for future reference
  • Works with vendors to evaluate products that meet University requirements
  • Manages vendor relationships to ensure timely delivery of services or products
  • Oversees the integration of third-party solutions into existing systems while maintaining compatibility
  • Manages software licenses for purchased products used within the data center environment
  • Ensures compliance with licensing agreements and University policies
  • Tracks license usage and recommends renewals or upgrades as needed

Requirements

Minimum: Requires a bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field; two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred: Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Server+, Amazon AWS, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate), experience with system administration and IT infrastructure management is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix)
  • Of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Of documentation and training development
  • Of IT infrastructure, including servers, operating systems, and network devices
  • Of troubleshooting and resolving technical issues
  • Of user account management and data security
  • Of collaborative project team work
