About the Role

The ISR Principal Modeling/Simulation Engineer will provide local support to the Space Warfighting Analysis Center (SWAC), Multi-Domain Sensing Program (MDSP), Space-based Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance and Targeting (ISRT) Division in Chantilly, VA. This role requires expertise in ISR systems/processes and modeling and simulation (M&S).

  • Develop, execute, and analyze space-based ISR models across all classification levels.
  • Articulate remote sensing needs from tactical to strategic levels, including data requirements, delivery destinations, and timeliness.
  • Employ and develop modeling, simulation, and analysis tools.
  • Coordinate internal and external M&S efforts and recommend improvements to concepts and architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Primary: Develop target (missile) simulations and trajectory/behavior files using tools like Advanced Framework for Simulation Integration and Modeling (AFSIM).
  • Primary: Develop M&S analysis and assessment scripts using government-supportable tools such as Visual Basic, Python, and/or MATLAB.
  • Secondary: Develop space-based missile warning access and performance models using tools like Systems Tool Kit (STK) or Satellite Orbit Analysis Program (SOAP). Integrate SWAC space-based ISR capability area force designs with M&S expertise.
  • Support force design analysis planning, execution coordination, and results evaluation.
  • Recommend and document force design dependencies and opportunities (joint, intelligence community, industry, international, and other government organizations).
  • Assist with modeling inputs and simulation development for external M&S efforts.
  • Collaborate in cross-functional planning, coordination, and task execution for systems engineering and integration activities.
  • Coordinate efforts internally and externally with multiple agencies/organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years of experience; Master’s and 7+ years; or PhD/JD and 4+ years.
  • Demonstrated experience developing complex space system models and simulations using tools like STK, SOAP, AFSIM, and/or NGTSD.
  • Experience developing simulation scripts and interface code using VB, Python, and/or MATLAB.
  • Technical understanding of Space-based ISR systems across joint, intelligence community, industry, international, and/or other government organizations.
  • 5+ years of space system modeling and simulation experience, including analyzing results.
  • In-depth understanding of space-based ISR systems and operations.
  • Proven problem-solving and critical thinking in complex, dynamic environments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team or independently.
  • Experience executing and directing tasks, coordinating with multiple organizations, and presenting leadership with viable architecture options.
  • Background in applying analytical problem-solving at tactical, operational, and strategic levels across DoD organizations.
  • Ability to identify operational shortfalls in U.S. space capabilities and recommend future architectures.
  • Experience developing and presenting leadership decision-quality briefings and papers.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance and polygraph; must meet SCI and SAP access requirements.

Pay

Target salary range: $160,000 – $200,000, based on experience.
