About the Role
The Inside Safe Motel Resident Monitor supports the daily operations of interim housing sites by promoting participant safety, engagement, program compliance, and housing stability. This role serves as the primary on-site support for participants, ensuring a safe, supportive, and housing-focused environment while complying with agency, funder, and program requirements.
Responsibilities
- Assist with participant admissions, orientations, and coordination of the intake process.
- Maintain compliance with LAHSA, DHS Housing for Health, and agency requirements.
- Complete participant contact logs, shift notes, incident reports, room inspection documentation, and other required program documentation within established timelines.
- Conduct motel/hotel site visits and wellness checks.
- Support Case Managers by identifying participant needs, documenting observations, coordinating appointments, and communicating participant concerns.
- Conduct daily wellness checks and participant engagement activities.
- Monitor participant compliance with interim housing expectations.
- Monitor common areas to promote participant safety, cleanliness, and compliance with program expectations.
- Assist with emergency evacuations, fire drills, and emergency response procedures as needed.
- Ensure participant rooms and common areas meet program health and safety standards.
- Assist with participant orientation upon admission to interim housing.
- Distribute supplies, meals, hygiene items, and program information.
- Monitor participant compliance with curfew and motel guidelines.
- Coordinate with security regarding participant safety concerns.
- Maintain inventory of basic participant supplies.
- Report maintenance issues affecting participant health or safety.
- Participate in daily huddles, case conferencing, and program meetings.
- Support participant engagement efforts to encourage housing readiness and service participation.
- Conduct room inspections and occupancy verification.
- Monitor motel safety, cleanliness, and maintenance concerns.
- Report facility issues to program leadership and property management.
- Assist with participant move-ins, transfers, and exits.
- Verify participant presence and conduct routine room checks.
- Monitor participant adherence to motel and program rules.
- Document participant absences, unauthorized guests, behavioral concerns, and safety issues.
- Complete shift logs, incident reports, and other required documentation within established timeframes.
- Respond appropriately to participant crises, behavioral concerns, medical emergencies, and safety incidents while notifying supervisory staff and emergency responders when appropriate.
- Provide thorough shift-to-shift communication regarding participant concerns, motel operations, safety issues, and pending follow-up items.
- Promptly communicate participant concerns, behavioral changes, safety issues, and service needs to the appropriate Case Manager or Supervisor.
- Maintain participant confidentiality and protect sensitive information in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, agency policies, and applicable laws.
- Ensure all required documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted within required program timelines.
- Provide participant support services and coordinate with Case Managers to ensure participant needs are communicated and appropriate referrals are made.
- Assist with coordinating and, when assigned, provide participant transportation to appointments, benefit offices, housing-related activities, and document acquisition.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Program Manager, Program Supervisor, and/or Associate Director.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree or coursework in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred. Relevant experience may substitute for education.
- If in recovery, a minimum of three (3) years of being drug and alcohol-free is mandatory.
- Ability to work with clients from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Verification of Employment Eligibility and Background Clearance.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Current proof of Auto Insurance is required.
- TB test required (not more than 3 months prior to or 7 days after the date of hire and renewal annually thereafter).
- CPR and First Aid Certifications are required within 30 days of employment.
- Basic computer word processing skills are required.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Experience utilizing HMIS, electronic health records, and other database systems for documentation and reporting is preferred.
- Knowledge of various community-based treatment providers is desirable.
- One year of experience working in homeless services, interim housing, shelters, residential programs, behavioral health, customer service, security, or a related human services field preferred.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to perform all duties in different environmental settings (community, office, homes, shelters, etc.).
- Ability to outreach and engage clients in different settings.
- Ability to perform duties on some weekday evenings and weekend days when required.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team (homeless, substance abuse, court referred, mental health).
- Must be able to work effectively and produce quality work under pressure.
- Neat and professional appearance.
- Attention to detail and punctuality required.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet.
- Be able to report (verbal/written) in accordance with the law all legal issues that surface (Tarasoff, child abuse, vulnerable adult abuse, danger to self/others, and grave disability).
- Professional experience working within a multi-integrated team.
- Bilingual preferred, but not required.
Pay
$23.00 - $27.00 per hour.
Working Conditions
- May be exposed to aggressive/hostile clients.
- Dealing with trauma may trigger personal trauma; must work in conjunction with other collaborative staff members.
- Communicate with many sources including courts, Los Angeles County Law Enforcement Agencies, District Attorney Offices, Victims Advocate Representatives, Department of Children and Family Services, and other community agencies.
- Local automobile travel may be required.
- Work in noisy environments where adults are free to talk loudly and expressively.
- Exposure to multiple tasks and must work with many different departments and Directors (DHM/BHS/law enforcement, etc.).
- While driving to training or performing other duties, there may be exposure to weather conditions, noise, moving vehicles, high crime rate areas, odors, fumes, pollen, etc.
Physical Requirements
- Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting (15 lbs), and some reaching, bending, stooping, walking, squatting, listening, and typing.
- A great portion of the day requires sitting, standing, carrying equipment/charts/documents, walking, reading, writing, and communicating or a combination of the above.
Mental Requirements
- Handle constant distractions, interruptions, uncontrollable changes in priorities/work schedules.
