About the role

The ISOU Flight Registered Nurse serves as a Medical Aircrew Member, providing in-flight, ground, and sea medical care during ICE missions and DHS operations. Responsibilities include emergency response, patient care, and supporting IHSC facilities. The role requires advanced nursing expertise, adaptability in austere environments, frequent travel, and readiness for rapid deployment domestically and globally.

Responsibilities

  • Emergency response and patient care during ICE removal missions and IHSC clinics.
  • Supporting medical aircrew member responsibilities on a national level, performing unusual and complex tasks in remote and austere conditions.
  • Direct patient care for individuals in ICE custody, IHSC clinics, or during DHS missions.
  • Represent U.S. government as an ICE health official overseas and with other federal agencies, military, and law enforcement.
  • Assist with providing direct patient care to migrants aboard cutters, small boats, fixed and rotary-wing aircrafts during AMIO.
  • Ensure official representation of U.S. government health services at sea.
  • Interact with individuals outside the department and high-level personnel.
  • Travel 50% of the time or more if needed.
  • Work in small aircrafts, business jets, large airliners, or helicopters, which may be civilian, military, or U.S. government assets.
  • Operate in various environments including ground vehicles and sea vessels in inclement weather.

Requirements

  • Current USPHS Commissioned Corps Officer or USPHS Call to Active Duty (CAD) candidate.
  • Pass Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Class III Flight Physical.
  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in nursing from an accredited program.
  • Current, unrestricted, and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of 4 years of direct patient care experience as a registered nurse.
  • Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act and established policies, guidelines, instructions, procedures, and protocols.
  • Knowledge of medication administration guidelines and pharmaceutical agents.
  • Experience in emergency, intensive care, trauma care, first responder care, or flight nursing.
  • Knowledge of public health preparedness, infection control, and tuberculosis management.
  • Advanced certifications such as AMLS, TNCC, PHTLS, TECC, ACLS, PALS, EPC, or NREMT.
  • Knowledge of IHSC policies, NCCHC, and PBNDS requirements.
  • Knowledge of Spanish or other secondary language.
  • Pass DHS Secret Clearance and U.S. Government Official Passport.
  • Maintain minimum flight hours per Official Non-Aircrew member flight orders.

  • Physical demands: ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. for 100 yards, see, hear, and smell with aids if necessary, pass FAA Class III Flight Physical, and perform duties in a stressful and austere environment.
