Isolation and Foster Manager

About the role

The Virginia Beach SPCA (VBSPCA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential pet services to the Hampton Roads community. We strive to create a more humane and responsible community by eliminating animal suffering and increasing human compassion through animal sheltering, adoptions, low-cost veterinary services, and humane education.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of isolation staff members in ensuring the Five Freedoms for the youngest and most vulnerable animal populations.
• Manage the daily operations of the isolation and foster program, including intake, care, and placement of animals.
• Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding animal care and welfare.
• Collaborate with other departments within the shelter to provide comprehensive support to animals and their adoptive families.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance the quality of care provided to animals in the isolation and foster programs.
• Oversee the training and development of the isolation staff team to ensure they are equipped to handle the unique needs of the animals in their care.

Requirements

• A degree in animal science, veterinary medicine, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience managing a similar program or working with animals in a shelter setting is required.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are necessary to manage a team and interact effectively with both staff and clients.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required due to the nature of the work.

Pay

The pay rate for this position ranges from $38,000 to $42,000 annually, depending on experience.

Schedule

The VBSPCA Shelter operates every day of the week from 8am to 6pm. The Management team is expected to close at least one night out of their workweek.
