About the role

This Technician will be responsible for the safe and proper execution of Thompson Industrial jobs across all service lines at customer locations. As a safety-conscious team member, you will lead two or more crews by planning, organizing, and coordinating daily operations. Responsibilities include ensuring the proper operation of equipment, driving operational efficiencies, and completing accurate job documentation in a timely manner. Technicians represent Thompson Industrial, fostering continuous working relationships with clients and customers while ensuring compliance with company policies and maintaining strong customer relations.

Responsibilities

  • Act as safety representative responsible for safety policies and procedures of both the company and the customer, including hands-on information regarding operations, safety, equipment, emergency response, and administrative functions.
  • Hands-on operation of manual and automated hydro-blasting equipment, including ultra-high-pressure pumps and specialized hydro-blasting, chemical cleaning, vacuum trucks, and cutting equipment.
  • Examine surface cleaning to ensure conformance to company and customer specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance on company equipment used on the job.
  • For supervisory roles: Interface with customer representatives regarding job setup and scope, ensure performance and customer requirements are met or exceeded, and implement company policies and procedures at the job site.
  • Report to the branch manager or designee and implement procedures to obtain specified results.

Physical Demands

  • See, read, distinguish, and understand signs in the work area.
  • Hear and distinguish emergency signals while on duty.
  • Execute a 180-degree rotary motion of the cervical spine to allow complete movement of the head and neck.
  • Extend arms above your head.
  • Frequently bend at the waist, stoop, squat, kneel, reach, and crawl.
  • Tolerate being wet from head to toe for extended periods.
  • Climb ladders and work from scaffolding and stationary platforms up to heights of 200 ft.
  • Work in confined spaces with a minimum of 5 ft inside diameter.
  • Hold the back thrust of 50 lbs on a straight 66” pipe for a minimum of 1 hour.
  • Work up to 16 hours per shift.
  • Use both negative pressure and air-supplied respirators.
  • Wear protective clothing and equipment, including Nomex coveralls, back belt, slickers, rubber boots, fresh air breathing mask, escape pack, and hard hat.
  • Work under extreme climate conditions (e.g., high heat index of 95°F with 98% humidity; sub-zero weather conditions).
  • Exposure to dust (chemical and environmental), fumes (chemical and fluids), exhaust, and highly pressurized fluids (respirator provided when required).
  • Noise levels exceeding 85 dBA (hearing protection provided and required).
  • Lift and maintain a minimum of 40 lbs.

Requirements

  • Specific vocational preparation, including classroom safety training, on-the-job training, and essential experience gained from other jobs.
  • English language proficiency to comprehend safety training and respond to instructions in emergency situations.
  • Valid driver’s license and compliance with the company’s driving policy when operating a company or personal vehicle for company business.
  • Knowledge of emergency equipment operation, such as fire extinguishers.
  • Federal Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).
