About the role

The Irrigation Specialist position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of lawn sprinkler and hydraulic systems to support landscaping programs in and around the College grounds. This includes inspecting, servicing, and repairing irrigation controllers and related electrical components, troubleshooting central irrigation control systems, and ensuring proper water usage.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain irrigation systems and related parts (recycled and potable water)
  • Maintain and troubleshoot central irrigation control systems
  • Maintain, renovate, and remodel sprinkler and hydraulic systems
  • Measure and audit soil moisture and adjust irrigation systems as needed
  • Operate a variety of power and hand tools and equipment
  • Drive a vehicle to perform work
  • Participate in screening and selection committees and other special assignments

Requirements

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and two (2) full-time equivalent years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of automatic irrigation systems in a commercial setting. A Certified Irrigation Technician (CIT) certification is desirable.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, methods, equipment, materials, and tools used in the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems
  • Basic horticulture techniques as it relates to irrigation
  • Skills in operating a variety of power and hand tools and equipment
  • Ability to interpret, apply, explain, and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively through various methods

Skills and Abilities

  • Perform a variety of technical tasks in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water irrigation systems
  • Inspect irrigation systems and correct or repair as necessary
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance of equipment and tools
  • Troubleshoot irrigation problems and determine materials, costs, and supplies required; recommend purchases
  • Understand and follow written and verbal directions, instructions, and safety rules and procedures
  • Maintain accurate logs and records
  • Operate modern office equipment, including computer equipment and software programs
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, plans, manuals, diagrams, blueprints, and technical regulations
  • Make accurate arithmetic calculations
  • Operate a truck and observe legal and defensive driving practices
  • Organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines
  • Communicate effectively through various methods
  • Learn and apply emerging technologies
  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Pay

The annual salary range for this position is $75,251.88 - $95,906.16.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is 100% FTE (Full-Time Equivalent).
