About the role
The Irrigation Specialist position at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Daytona Beach Campus is crucial for maintaining and improving the university's irrigation systems. This role involves installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing irrigation systems, including low-voltage controls, hydraulic components, and related equipment.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair campus irrigation systems, including low-voltage controllers, valves, piping, and hydraulic components.
- Schedule and perform irrigation operations to ensure proper watering of landscaped areas while minimizing water waste and preventing damage to University property.
- Modify and expand existing irrigation systems and maintain accurate as-built drawings and system documentation.
- Diagnose irrigation system issues and recommend and implement effective repairs and improvements.
- Install and maintain pressure relief valves and other system components to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on irrigation equipment and systems.
- Respond to emergency irrigation repairs and assist during severe weather or campus emergency operations as needed.
- Maintain a safe work environment and perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Three (3) years of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing commercial irrigation systems.
- Valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Working knowledge of irrigation systems, including low-voltage controls, hydraulic systems, valves, controllers, and PVC pipe installation.
- Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair irrigation equipment and related components.
- Ability to operate hand tools, power equipment, and irrigation maintenance equipment safely.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 25 pounds, bending, kneeling, climbing, and prolonged standing.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications: High school diploma or GED; three (3) years of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing commercial irrigation systems; valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record; working knowledge of irrigation systems, including low-voltage controls, hydraulic systems, valves, controllers, and PVC pipe installation; ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair irrigation equipment and related components; ability to operate hand tools, power equipment, and irrigation maintenance equipment safely; ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 25 pounds, bending, kneeling, climbing, and prolonged standing; strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Preferred qualifications: Experience with commercial or institutional irrigation systems; experience reading irrigation plans or maintaining as-built drawings; experience with irrigation controllers, water conservation practices, and preventive maintenance programs.

Pay and Schedule
- The hourly range for this role is $18.00- $19.00. The final offer will be based on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience, as well as applicable state regulations, internal equity, and business needs, and may fall outside of the stated range.
