About the role

An Ironworker Journeyman has heavy industrial experience as an Ironworker and is skilled in all aspects of safe structural component assembly and maintenance including welding, fabrication, and stress relieving. Experienced in rigging practices, lifting and moving equipment or material on construction sites. An Ironworker Journeyman is also knowledgeable in oxyfuel cutting, identifying and installing iron and supports, and can read structural drawings and detail sheets.

Responsibilities

  • Careful initial planning of the job to be carried out, reading and following erection drawings/plans.
  • Set up hoisting equipment.
  • Raises and places structural steel members with basic rigging knowledge for raising and placing structural steel members.
  • Fastens steel members to the cable of the hoist using a chain, cable, or rope.
  • Sigal worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel members.
  • Guides member, using tagline to guide it into position.
  • Pulls pushes, or pries steel members into approximate position while the member is supported by a hoisting device.
  • Forces members into final position, using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, and hand tools.
  • Aligns bolt holes in steel members using drift pins or spud wrenches.
  • Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members using plumb bob and level.
  • Bolts aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded in place.
  • Cuts and welds steel members to make alterations using oxyacetylene welding equipment and supplies.
  • Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • May assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and work pieces during installation.
  • Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
  • Using cranes to lift and guide individual steel components into position.
  • Knowledge of crane signals.
  • Accurately aligning and leveling each steel component into place before bolting and welding them into fixed positions.
  • Using mobile elevated work platforms, ladders, and lifts as the structure gains height to access sections of the ground
  • Laying metal decking and installing safety railing as the structure is built up.

Qualifications

  • Level III: Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related ironwork experience
    NCCER Ironworker journeyman certification
  • Level II: Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related ironwork experience
    NCCER Performance Ironworker journeyman verification
    Other verified experiences or certifications with ironworker experience
  • Level I: Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related ironwork experience

Requirements

  • Read ISO's, Blueprints, P&IDs, and Shop Drawings
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation
  • Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List
  • Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights
