About the Role

The Ironworker Foreman will direct and supervise a crew in planning, layout, installation, and alignment of work in accordance with plans, specifications, tolerances, industry standards, and codes. The role involves coordinating the efforts of journeymen and craftsmen, motivating the crew to accomplish work safely, productively, correctly, and efficiently, and collaborating with other crafts as needed.

Responsibilities

• Identify safety hazards and take corrective action to eliminate or minimize risks.
• Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (e.g., back-up alarms, smell of smoke, warning tags, sirens).
• Implement lockout/tag out procedures safely.
• Understand, train, and enforce 100% tie-off/fall protection.
• Demonstrate a basic understanding of the MasTec Safety Manual and policies, including fall protection, confined space, LOTO, and trenching.
• Ensure daily equipment inspections are performed by your crew on all equipment in use.
• Follow the MasTec planning/JSA process for your crew; review, provide feedback, and train the crew.
• Support additional safety practices, such as supervisor audits, craft observations, and SLT meetings.
• Report all safety events and near misses to your supervisor.
• Conduct effective gang box meetings, assign performance goals, and ensure the crew is "tools on" and working within 20-25 minutes of start time (10-15 minutes with the foreman and 10 minutes in the work area filling out the JSA).
• Inspect field conditions, identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost-saving measures; take corrective actions as needed.
• Follow the MasTec planning process, including 1-week look-ahead, daily goal cards, JSAs, and task planning.
• Maintain in-depth relationships with team members and supervisors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 4+ years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• NCCER Certification/License (preferred).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory role.
• Knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
• Actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
• Set a personal example of safe behavior.
• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Perform basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using units of weight, measurement, and volume.
• Apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
• Work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards.

Physical Demands

• Work up to a 12-hour shift performing hard physical labor in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.
• Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully.
• Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
• Perform repetitive tasks continuously for several-hour intervals.
• Work in uncontrolled environmental conditions, including constant changes in weather and site conditions.
• Moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
• Wear personal protective equipment (e.g., safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest).
• Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
• Work at heights and comply with all safety and fall-protection requirements; wear and utilize all required safety equipment.
• Evaluate information based on measurable standards and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings in objects or drawings.
• Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.
• Maintain good balance while working at heights.
• See well (naturally or with correction).
• Hear well (naturally or with correction).
• Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.

Schedule

This is a full-time position typically scheduled for 50 hours per week. The schedule is subject to project requirements.

Travel is required up to 90%, with presence directly on the project site location and intermittent travel to residence of record.

Pay

Compensation starts at $40.00/hour, commensurate with experience.
