About the role

The Ironworker position works as a member of a crew to raise, place, and unite girders, columns, and other structural-steel members to form completed structures and frameworks. This is a non-exempt role reporting to the Foreman.

Responsibilities

  • Offload deliveries of structural material from the fabricator.
  • Set up and break down hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members.
  • Fasten steel members to cable of hoist and signal worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member.
  • Guide member or ride on member to guide it into position.
  • Pull or pry steel members into approximate position while supported by hoisting device.
  • Force members into final position and align holes with corresponding holes in previously placed members.
  • Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of members.
  • Bolt aligned members to keep them in position until permanently bolted.
  • Cut steel members to make alterations.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level).
  • Knowledge of ironworker tools and how to use them.
  • Rigging skills including wire rope slings.
  • Some job sites may require NCCER certification.
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen, physical evaluation, and signed acceptance of the company Drug, Alcohol, and Contraband Policy.
  • Comply with company and client job site safety requirements.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.

Physical Involvement

  • Climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level.
  • Maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.
  • Reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials.
  • Coordinating movements of eyes, hands, and fingers to operate tools and equipment.
  • Lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead.
  • Carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.
  • Standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, crouching/squatting, crawling.
  • Seeing and hearing with or without correction.

Pay

Final agreed-upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
