About the role

The DCU Institute of Future Media, Democracy and Society invites applications for a position to contribute to its research programmes. The role will involve working across a range of projects focused on media, democracy, and digital technologies, with a particular emphasis on disinformation, media pluralism, and deliberative democracy. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research environment and contribute to the Institute's growing portfolio of national and European research projects.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research across multiple projects in the areas of media and democracy, disinformation, and digital technologies
  • Contribute to the design and execution of research methodologies including qualitative and quantitative approaches
  • Prepare research outputs including reports, academic publications, and policy briefs
  • Engage with project partners, stakeholders, and policymakers across Ireland and Europe
  • Contribute to the Institute's public engagement and dissemination activities
  • Support the coordination of research projects and manage project deliverables
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Institute's research themes

Requirements

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline such as media studies, political science, sociology, communication studies, or a related field
  • Demonstrated research experience in one or more of the Institute's core areas (disinformation, media pluralism, deliberative democracy, digital media)
  • Strong publication record appropriate to career stage
  • Experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team

Qualifications

  • PhD completed (or near completion) in a relevant discipline
  • Proven track record of research outputs including publications and reports
  • Experience in project coordination and stakeholder engagement

Skills

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent project management and organisational abilities
  • Proficiency in relevant research software and tools
  • Ability to communicate complex research findings to diverse audiences
  • Experience with policy-relevant research and engagement
