Job Description
The Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist operates interventional radiographic equipment to produce imaging for diagnostic and interventional procedures under the direction of a radiologist. They work with a team that includes physicians, nurses, and other technologists to perform specialized examinations. They also mentor less experienced IR technologists.
Essential Functions
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff.
- Performs interventional procedures such as angiographic, drainage, biopsies, nephrostomies, catheter insertions, vascular embolization, and others under the guidance of a physician.
- Maintains proper patient positioning and equipment during contrast media flow.
- Tests special equipment like contrast media injectors and program selectors for functionality.
- Determines equipment needs based on the physician’s diagnosis and scout films.
- Maintains radiographic and lab equipment and examination rooms in good working order.
- Supports staff and patient safety according to radiation safety standards.
- Performs other related technologist duties as directed by supervisors or managers.
Competencies
- Knowledge of needles, catheters, sterile techniques, and drugs used in exams.
- Understanding of interventional procedures, equipment, and hospital/departments policies.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Graduate of an approved American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) program or current validated Registry from ARRT in Radiology Technology (R).
- Advanced ARRT certification preferred.
- Two years of interventional radiography experience in a hospital setting preferred.
Salary Range
$38.80 to $55.31 hourly. The actual hiring rate will be determined based on candidate experience, skills, and qualifications. This position is not eligible for an annual incentive. Positions posted as annual salaries reflect an estimated amount for a 1.0 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE).
