About the role
The IP Counsel will provide optimal protection and generate maximum long-term value for Philips by preparing and prosecuting high quality patent applications that meet international patentability standards. They will also support infringement and validity analysis, including claim chart mapping to technical standards and other use cases.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and prosecute high quality patent applications that meet international patentability standards.
- Maintain a substantial and active prosecution docket of patent applications.
- Support infringement and validity analysis, including claim chart mapping to technical standards and other use cases.
- Contribute to IP litigation and/or IP licensing.
- Support analysis of third-party patents to grow the IP portfolio in the relevant technology domain.
- Work together with international colleagues to harmonize patent protection.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree with a technical background in physics, electrical engineering, or computer science.
- A Master’s degree or higher is a plus.
- Subject matter knowledge in technology domains like audio/video compression/codecs, and wireless connectivity technologies such as 3GPP/WiFi.
- A licensed US Patent Attorney with 5 + years of patent creation experience at a law firm, or a mix of law firm and in-house experience, preferably at a multinational organization.
- Experience in handling IP matters relating to drafting and prosecution, defending IP assertions, contributing to IP litigation and/or IP licensing.
- Excellent analytical and intellectual capabilities; in combination with key communications skills to operate at all levels both internally and externally.
