IP Associate
About the role
Burr & Forman is seeking an Intellectual Property Associate with three to five years of patent experience. The primary focus of this position is patent preparation and prosecution, with an opportunity to work on a wide variety of intellectual property matters.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and prosecute patent applications in the United States and internationally
- Conduct patentability searches and freedom-to-operate analyses
- Assist in the development and prosecution of patent portfolios
- Work closely with clients to understand their needs and develop strategic solutions
- Participate in client meetings and provide legal advice on intellectual property matters
- Collaborate with other departments within the firm to ensure seamless service delivery
Requirements
- J.D. degree
- Membership in the applicable state bar
- Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
- A degree in electrical engineering and experience in telecommunications, integrated circuits, or related technologies
- Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills
- Superior investigative and problem resolution skills
- Technical and analytical skills necessary to conduct complex and detailed analysis of patent-related matters
- Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals
Qualifications
- Three to five years of patent experience
- Experience in telecommunications, integrated circuits, or related technologies
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
