About the role

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) Nurse/Marketing Representative serves a dual role by providing clinical nursing support to the IOP while actively developing and maintaining referral relationships throughout the community.

Responsibilities

  • Complete the admission process for all new IOP patients.
  • Perform nursing assessments on all new IOP admissions.
  • Obtain and document vital signs.
  • Complete medication reconciliation.
  • Review allergies, medical history, and current diagnoses.
  • Assess for suicide risk, fall risk, and safety concerns.
  • Monitor patients for changes in physical or mental condition.
  • Notify providers of significant changes in patient status.
  • Participate in treatment planning with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensure physician orders are carried out accurately.
  • Coordinate laboratory work and diagnostic testing as ordered.
  • Monitor medication compliance and side effects.
  • Provide medication education to patients and caregivers.
  • Assist with crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Respond appropriately to medical emergencies.
  • Care for coordination of care.
  • Communicate with: Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Therapists, Social Workers, Case Managers, Family members, Primary Care Providers.
  • Coordinate referrals and continuity of care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with hospitals, emergency departments, rural health clinics, primary care providers, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, home health agencies, hospice agencies, senior centers, churches, veterans organizations, community mental health centers, social service agencies.
  • Conduct regular physician office visits.
  • Schedule educational presentations.
  • Meet with discharge planners.
  • Develop referral pipelines.
  • Attend community events.
  • Represent the hospital at health fairs.
  • Educate referral sources regarding IOP services.
  • Maintain contact with current referral partners.
  • Identify new referral opportunities.
  • Affiliate with community outreach events.
  • Distribute marketing materials.
  • Track referral activity.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Licensure: Current LPN Nurse license in the State of Mississippi. Current BLS certification.
  • Experience: Preferred: Behavioral Health, Psychiatric Nursing, Geriatric Psychiatry, Intensive Outpatient Programs, Marketing or Physician Relations, Case Management, Community Outreach.
  • Knowledge & Skills: Strong assessment skills, Excellent communication skills, Ability to build professional relationships, Knowledge of behavioral health diagnoses, Understanding of Medicare and Medicaid behavioral health services, Familiarity with psychiatric medications, Excellent organizational skills, Ability to work independently, Strong computer and EMR skills, Professional presentation skills, Customer service oriented, Time management, Problem-solving ability.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking and standing.

  • Ability to travel throughout the service area.
  • Ability to assist patients during emergencies.
  • Ability to operate office equipment and computer systems.
  • Perform daily touches as per rotation schedule.

  • Compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Timeliness of nursing documentation.
  • Participation in quality improvement initiatives.

Pre-Admit Screening

  • Conduct pre-admission screenings for all prospective IOP patients.
  • Coooperate with the IOP transportation team.
  • Monitor attendance and follow up with patients who miss scheduled treatment days.
  • Affiliate with providers during weekly psychiatric rounds.
  • Review insurance eligibility, authorizations, and recertifications with Utilization Review as needed.
  • Educate referral facilities on Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance criteria for IOP admission.
  • Maintain referral tracking logs and report weekly referral metrics to administration.
  • Participate in community education presentations focused on geriatric behavioral health, depression, anxiety, dementia-related behaviors, and caregiver support.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between referral sources and the hospital to facilitate timely admissions and continuity of care.
