Investment Banking Associate - Financial Institutions Group, Banks and Diversified Financials - New York
About the role
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with regional and international clients on a wide range of complex transactions including acquisitions, divestitures, mergers, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, shareholder relations, recapitalizations, defenses against unsolicited takeover attempts, strategic advisory assignments and executions of public and private capital markets transactions.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with senior professionals throughout the firm to deliver high quality advice to our clients.
- Play an important role on a team that includes senior professionals who will encourage you to go beyond the numbers and think creatively.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience within the investment banking industry as an analyst and associate, or an MBA, with a proven track record working on executed deals across M&A and various industry sectors, with a strong focus and interest in banks / depositories.
- In-depth understanding of the U.S. banking sector including comfort with analyzing and interpreting financial data.
- Experience with M&A execution in the banks space and ability to conduct bank-specific analyses, including understanding of valuation methodologies as well as strong familiarity with industry data sources (e.g., SNL, Capital IQ, regulatory data, etc.).

- Strong technical as well as written and verbal communication skills.
- Commercial instinct and ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines.
Skills
- An MBA, CA and/or CFA designation would be an asset.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Series licensing or must obtain.

Pay
Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $150,000 and $225,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
