Investment Analyst (Boston, MA)
This position is based in Boston, MA and is a full-time, year-round role with a two-year initial appointment. The expected salary range is $100,000 to $110,000 per year, with a 15% incentive target. Salary will vary based on relevant education, training, experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations.
About the role
The Amherst College endowment makes long-term investments to support a substantial portion of Amherst's operating budget in perpetuity. The goal is to generate superior investment results on a multi-year basis. The investment team partners with external investors across asset classes globally, including private and public equity, credit, real assets, and more. The Analyst program provides a unique opportunity for new Amherst College graduates to gain broad exposure to institutional investing through a two-year initial appointment, with potential for further extension.
Over the course of the program, the Analyst will gain exposure to the finance industry and asset management business, developing qualitative and quantitative skills to pursue advanced degrees (e.g., MBA) or investment management work. The Analyst will also receive support to pursue continuing education opportunities, including the CFA and/or CAIA charters.
Responsibilities
- Assist team members with investment analysis, including research on investment organizations, people, strategies, geographical markets, companies, industries, and investment structures.
- Prepare for and participate in due diligence meetings with current and prospective investment managers.
- Contribute to written investment analyses demonstrating curiosity, rigor, thoroughness, and creativity.
- Support endowment operations, including managing and organizing data and notes.
- Perform custom research and analytical projects focused on the overall Endowment portfolio, specific managers, and asset classes.
- Collaborate with key constituents at Amherst, including staff, faculty, and student groups.
- Promote connectivity with students and the Investment Office through interaction with student interns and on-campus groups.
- Travel occasionally (~10% of the time) to cover meetings with existing or prospective managers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from Amherst College required.
- Intellectual curiosity and ability to think critically.
