About the role

The Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) is Oregon’s state agency dedicated to ensuring that every student has access to well-prepared, ethical, and accountable educators. In this critical role, you’ll conduct fair, thorough, and timely investigations into educator conduct, helping protect students and uphold the integrity of Oregon’s education system. You’ll work closely with schools, families, and partner agencies to uphold fairness, transparency, and trust in Oregon’s education system.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize and investigate complaints related to educator conduct and student safety
• Conduct trauma-informed interviews with educators, students, and families
• Gather and analyze evidence, prepare clear reports, and present findings
• Collaborate with law enforcement, DHS, and other partners
• Maintain accurate case records and testify in hearings when needed
• Ensure investigations align with state and federal laws and agency policies

Requirements

Two years of recent (within the last five years) investigative experience which included gathering facts, collecting evidence, examining records, and conducting interviews to verify or disprove claims of suspected law violations. College-level courses in law enforcement, criminal justice, law, accounting, auditing, or a closely-related field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to one year of the required experience.

• Experience handling sensitive or confidential information with professionalism and sound judgment
• Familiarity with legal processes, administrative rules, and preparation of investigative or legal documentation
• Demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed, anti-bias, and equitable approaches in investigations or public service
• Experienced in conducting effective interviews and producing clear, accurate investigation reports
• Collaborative team player, adept at working with co-workers and external agencies to achieve professional objectives
• Proficient with Microsoft Office or comparable software
• Excellent organizational skills to manage priorities, deadlines, and interruptions efficiently

Pay

The salary range listed is the non-PERS eligible rate: $4,519 - $6,904 per month. If you’re already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible after 6 months of employment, the salary range will increase by 6.95% and the required 6% employee retirement contribution will be deducted from your pay.

Schedule

Permanent, full-time, SEIU-represented position.

Employee is required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license issued by the state where the employee resides. This position is subject to a criminal records check, which will require fingerprints. Position also required to successfully obtain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Security Training and Awareness certification within 60 days of employment start date.
