Investigative Data Scientist/AI Engineer
About the role
You'll play a critical role in protecting market integrity by combining investigative analysis with AI and data science to support Nasdaq's Investigations and Enforcement program. Responsibilities
- Investigate potential market manipulation and trading misconduct by applying advanced data analysis and AI-powered tools to complex, multi-source datasets.
- Design and build AI-powered solutions — including large language model applications, retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, and agentic workflows — to make investigations faster and more effective.
- Partner with attorneys, surveillance analysts, and cross-functional stakeholders to support active cases and deliver clear, well-reasoned investigative findings.
- Collaborate with external regulators and industry bodies to share insights, align on referrals, and contribute to broader market integrity efforts.
- Manage multiple concurrent matters with precision, maintaining organized and well-documented data in support of ongoing enforcement work.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of professional experience in data science or AI engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and apply analytics, machine learning techniques, and data visualizations to solve complex, ambiguous problems.
- Experience or genuine interest in equities or options markets and the regulatory landscape governing them.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a relevant field.
- Hands-on experience building with large language models, generative AI, or agentic systems.
- Familiarity with cloud-based AI and machine learning services and modern data engineering frameworks.
Schedule
This position offers a hybrid work environment with at least 3 days a week in-office, located in Washington D.C.

Pay
The base pay range for this role is $96,000 - $163,000. In addition to base salary, Nasdaq provides a generous annual bonus/commission (short-term incentive) and equity (long-term incentive). Exact compensation may vary based on skill set, experience, education/training, business needs, and market demands.
