Investigation Analyst

About the Role

As a member of the Internal Investigation Unit (IIU), under the direction of the Health and Safety Services Section Chief (Supervisor II), the Analyst II is responsible for providing investigation support to internal and external California Air Resources Board (CARB) employees, contractors, and stakeholders. The goal is to ensure a safe and healthy work environment free from bullying, harassment, intimidation, stalking, threats, and acts of violence, thereby preventing the creation of a hostile work environment. This position also collaborates with the Industrial Hygiene and Safety Section (IHSS) to investigate occupational accidents, near-miss incidents, and conduct safety assessments of CARB buildings. The work is time-sensitive and requires strong written and verbal communication skills, a positive attitude, and a commitment to exceeding customer expectations. The incumbent must handle confidential information securely and may be required to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations from initial intake to final reporting, ensuring findings are fact-based and unbiased.
• Collaborate with IHSS to investigate occupational accidents, near-miss incidents, and assess building safety.
• Maintain confidentiality and secure handling of sensitive information.
• Support a positive work environment and productive relationships with all staff in an ethical and professional manner.

Requirements

• Submission of a Supplemental Questionnaire (SQ) with the application, addressing specific questions about investigation approach, skills, and experiences.
• Completion of the State Examination/Employment Application (STD 678) or Electronic State Employment Application.
• Inclusion of a resume and all relevant experience/education to demonstrate meeting the Minimum Qualifications.
• Ability to travel occasionally.
