Inventory Specialist

Walgreens inventory specialists ensure accurate, efficient inventory processes across the entire store, including front end and pharmacy.

Responsibilities

• Execute, monitor, and train team members on inventory best practices and standard operating procedures.
• Support pharmacy inventory management: receiving, counting, ordering, returns, and facilitating recalls following Pharmacy Hazardous Waste Policy.
• Champion On-Shelf Availability (OSA) by managing disposals, call-ins, vendor returns, scan-outs, and planogram compliance.
• Validate and ensure accuracy of planograms and pricing, including daily price changes, markdowns, and regulatory pricing tasks.
• Review and coordinate the use of inventory reports and system applications to maintain accurate on-hand balances and pricing.
• Execute asset protection techniques, file claims for warehouse/vendor overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods (including prescription drugs).
• In designated stores, open and close the store in the absence of management, including cash handling, cashier responsibilities, and preparing the sales floor.
• Engage customers by greeting them, offering assistance, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service.
• Execute and coach team members on warehouse and vendor inventory processes, including order creation, review, and receiving.
• Scan all deliveries while the vendor is present, mark deliveries as received, and address undelivered or inaccurate orders.
• Under pharmacist supervision, verify pharmacy shipments, post orders (warehouse, ABC prescription, OTC, flu, dropship), perform tote audits, and report shortages or damaged product.
• Complete pharmacy inventory activities, including recalls, vendor returns, non-controlled/damaged salvage returns, and excess inventory transfers.
• Order expense items, monitor pharmacy manual orders, maintain consigned inventory, and update pull & quarantine items.
• Maintain accurate inventory counts for all departments, stockroom, overstock locations, and pharmacy smart counts.
• Ensure compliance with state and local laws for regulated products (e.g., alcoholic beverages, tobacco).
• Assist in maintaining inventory records, organizing files, and retaining invoices/receipts/return authorizations.
• Prepare for and support physical inventory activities, including auditing third-party teams.
• Maintain clean, well-merchandised counters and shelves.
• Assist and coach team members on package delivery activities, including scanning, inventory functions, and returns.
• In designated stores, when serving as leader on duty, register sales on POS, handle scanning errors, price verifications, returns, refunds, cash drops, and provide change.
• Comply with company policies, maintain respectful coworker relationships, and complete additional assigned tasks.

Qualifications

• Six months of prior work experience with Walgreens (internal candidates) or one year of prior retail work experience (external candidates).
• Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
• Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to multitask, and manage execution.
• Experience identifying operational issues and recommending solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as a shift lead, pharmacy technician, designated hitter, or customer service associate.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens, with an evaluation on file.
• Valid pharmacy license/certification as required by the state.

Pay

Salary range: $18 - $21 per hour.
