About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Inventory Cost Accountant to join our team at Tesla to support automotive manufacturing operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead inventory system improvement initiatives to increase inventory accuracy and implement best practices across all warehouses and locations
- Work closely with operational inventory control teams to coordinate and enhance cycle count programs, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Conduct in-depth analysis of inventory consumption, variances, and reconciliations related to all inventory including raw material and WIP
- Perform month-end and year-end close activities including inventory-related journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
- Maintain and develop management dashboards and analytic tools for inventory tracking and reporting
- Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, accounting, operations, and business teams to answer questions related to inventory and operational processes
Requirements
- Degree in Accounting, related field, or equivalent experience with CPA license
- 3+ years of experience as a cost accountant or in a similar inventory/manufacturing cost analysis role with proven experience in operational inventory control and cycle counting programs
- Strong understanding of GAAP, supply chain, receiving, inventory flow, operations processes, and manufacturing cost accounting principles
- Experience leading system improvement projects and driving operational change to enhance inventory accuracy
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, experience with ERP systems, and strong SQL skills for data extraction and manipulation
- Tableau or dashboard development experience strongly preferred with proficiency in financial analysis, cost modeling, and variance analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent communication abilities and the capacity to develop innovative solutions to resolve complex inventory and manufacturing accounting challenges
