Inventory Accountant

About the role

We're seeking an Inventory Accountant to join a growing organization in Des Moines, IA that values integrity, teamwork, accountability, innovation, and respect.

Responsibilities

  • Review, process, and reconcile inventory transactions across a large retail network.
  • Analyze inventory variances and research discrepancies.
  • Calculate and monitor inventory shrink and related adjustments.
  • Perform weekly and monthly inventory reconciliations.
  • Balance sales, delivery, and return activity to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Maintain the integrity of inventory and accounting databases.
  • Partner with Operations and Distribution teams to resolve inventory issues.
  • Investigate root causes and recommend solutions.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts that enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Auxiliary support for accounting functions as needed.
  • Ensure inventory activity is properly reflected within accounting systems.
  • Support accurate reporting and financial controls.
  • Maintain confidentiality and safeguard sensitive financial information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, or related field preferred.
  • Alternatively, 1–3 years of accounting experience with inventory, reconciliations, or transactional analysis.
  • Strong Excel skills, including: VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, data analysis and reconciliation.
  • Understanding of accounting and bookkeeping principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication with colleagues and business partners.
  • Experience with ERP or accounting systems is a plus.
