About the role
The post-doctoral scholar will envision research strategies that could ultimately benefit children with medical or mental health disorders or diseases. In consultation with the mentor whose lab they will join and other mentors with clinical or biotechnology expertise, the scholar will establish a plan for engineering or creating candidate therapeutics or improving existing therapeutics. Possible areas of therapeutic discovery and development include gene therapy, cellular therapeutics (e.g., CAR-T cells), or protein therapeutics (e.g., antibody or peptide therapeutics).
Responsibilities
- Establish a plan for engineering or creating candidate therapeutics or improving existing therapeutics.
- Engage in biotech-oriented team science that involves milestone-driven research and makes clear "Go/No-Go" decisions that mirror biotech mindset and processes.
- Take the lead on preparing manuscripts that report their results and work toward the goal of becoming nationally competitive for careers in academia or industry.
- Devote up to 20% of time to coursework designed to develop skills in drug discovery and development, regulatory affairs, and intellectual property management.
Qualifications
- Doctorate degree (PhD/DVM/MD) in specialty area from an accredited university training program.
- Experience using basic research techniques of specialty area.
Skills
- Experience in protocol or manuscript development and in grant writing.
