About the role
The Special Education Teacher, under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator, provides quality services to special education students, kindergarten through grade 12.
Responsibilities
- Provides special instruction, tutorial assistance, and consultation to students in a variety of settings.
- Participates in planning and implementing student programs, including collaboration with general education staff.
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
- Maintains current CPR certification if applicable.
- Completes TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray as required.
- Maintains a current health certificate as per contract or state regulation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university preferred.
- Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations.
- Minimum of one year experience in teaching environment preferred.
- State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred.
- State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred.
- State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred.
- Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred.
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
- Maintains current CPR certification if applicable.
- Completes TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray as required.
- Maintains a current health certificate as per contract or state regulation.
Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age.
- Teaching certification in Georgia for special education general and curriculum certs in Math or ELA.
Skills
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with general education staff.
- Knowledge of special education methodologies and resources.
