Interventional Technologist / Cardiac Laboratory Adult

Location: St. Vincent’s Medical Center (Bridgeport, CT) – Monday–Friday 7:00 AM–5:30 PM, with weekday overnight call and weekend call required.

About the Role

The St. Vincent’s Medical Center Cath Lab is a high-functioning, fast-paced environment with three labs performing complex cardiac procedures, including structural heart interventions. The Interventional Radiology Technologist is a key team member who develops specialized skills in circulating, monitoring, and scrub roles during invasive cardiac procedures. This role involves working with advanced equipment such as contrast injectors, ultrasounds, IVUS, mechanical thrombectomy devices, and atherectomy supplies, as well as a wide range of supplies including stents, balloons, catheters, and coils. Responsibilities include entering patient data into x-ray equipment, annotating and post-processing images, and ensuring compliance with radiation safety standards (ALARA principles). The position offers an intensive orientation with on-the-job training and a clinical ladder for professional growth.

Responsibilities

• Assists with cardiovascular procedures to analyze, diagnose, and treat the cardiovascular system.
• Prepares patients for procedures, including reviewing medical history, positioning, and preparing testing sites.
• Interprets, describes, and reports test results; recognizes errors and artifacts and responds appropriately.
• Monitors patients before, during, and after procedures, reporting any abnormal findings promptly.
• Prepares and maintains equipment, supplies, and the lab area.
• Functions as part of the cardiovascular lab team, assisting cardiologists and team leaders in routine diagnostic and minor surgical procedures.
• Provides accurate angiographic image identification, processes cine-angiographic images, and ensures quality control.
• Maintains certification, meets continuing education requirements, and stays current on cardiovascular practices.
• Cross-trains between Cath/EP labs as required.
• Attends Cath interventional meetings, department/staff meetings, and/or grand rounds as required.
• Maintains cooperative relationships and approaches conflict constructively.
• Assumes responsibility for safe job performance, reporting hazards and unsafe practices to management.
• Complies with department/organization policies, including timely reporting of rhythm changes to designated leaders.
• Utilizes monitoring equipment to track patient vital signs and alerts nurses to potential issues.
• Identifies basic arrhythmias and notifies nursing staff.
• Transports patients to and from units for cardiac procedures.
• Follows Cath Lab/hospital standards for pre- and post-procedure patient preparation.
• Monitors patients during pre/post diagnostic and interventional procedures.
• Orders supplies, answers phones, schedules patient appointments, and manages data as needed.
• Maintains cleanliness in patient care areas.
• Follows safety guidelines for handling intravenous (IV) fluids.
• Participates in on-call rotations.

Qualifications

• Certified BLS Provider and ACLS Provider credential from the American Heart Association (AHA), obtained prior to hire.
• Certified Radiologic Technologist credential from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), obtained prior to hire.
• Graduate of an accredited Radiological Technology program certified by the ARRT.
• Preferred: 2+ years of Radiology Technologist experience.
• Preferred: Cardiac Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, or hybrid OR experience.
• Preferred: Experience scrubbing in a sterile environment.
• Preferred: Certified Cardio Graphic Tech (CCT) credential from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
• Ability to recognize normal and abnormal ECG rhythms, ischemia, and infarction patterns.
