Interventional Radiology Technologist Per Diem

About the Role

Supports the Organization’s mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the Organization’s Compliance Program, including following all regulatory and policy requirements. Assists physicians in performing a variety of interventional radiology procedures. Responsible for the operation and quality control of radiological equipment in accordance with the Organization’s policies, procedures, and training. Assists with inventory and supply management.

Responsibilities

• Performs various activities necessary for the preparation of the patient and the procedure room for radiology procedures in compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and state and federal regulations.
• Reviews patient-specific procedure orders to determine materials/supplies needed.
• Sets up and stocks the procedure room and trays with all required supplies and interventional equipment prior to procedures; cleans the procedure room post-procedure, including equipment and machinery.
• Conducts all necessary preparations of the patient procedure room and documents when appropriate.
• Explains procedures to patients, answers questions, and addresses concerns.
• Assists with preparing the patient for surgical procedures by positioning, shaving, and prepping.
• Performs patient transfers and transports patients to and from the procedure room.
• Inputs patient data into the C-Arm.
• Acts as a scrub assistant, assisting the physician during interventional procedures, and administers fluoroscopy to enable visualization of blood flow while maintaining sterile technique.
• Complies with HIPAA policies and standards regarding patient confidentiality.
• Draws up and labels intravenous medication as per organizational policy.
• Processes and archives x-ray images to comply with organizational policies and state regulations.
• Provides outstanding quality of patient care by supporting and driving the organization’s quality standards through regulatory compliance and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).
• Assists with implementing the organization’s quality goals and facility-specific action plans.
• Ensures medical records are accurate, complete, and compliant with organizational policies.
• Maintains environmental integrity and aesthetics; ensures all areas are clean, sanitary, and safe daily.
• Inspects equipment daily to ensure proper working condition; makes recommendations for repairs or replacement.
• Assists with disposal of hazardous waste materials, dirty linen, and rugs.
• Prepares, organizes, and efficiently utilizes supplies and equipment to prevent waste.
• Attends and participates in Governing Body meetings, assisting with agenda preparation and data gathering.
• Ensures effective communication with physicians and addresses their concerns.
• Attends and participates in CQI meetings with physicians, reporting on assigned topics.
• Works with physicians and staff to ensure all necessary instruments and equipment are available.
• Assists in training and orienting new employees.
• Ensures accurate and timely patient billing by reviewing procedures, documenting charges, and verifying CPT and ICD-9 codes.
• Assists with inventory, ordering, and restocking of supplies.
• Acts as Radiation Safety Officer; monitors radiation badges and conducts in-services regarding radiation safety.
• Participates in all facility regulatory and accreditation surveys and action plans to address deficiencies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma required; Associate’s Degree desirable; Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred.
• Current ARRT Certification and/or State Licensure (as per state regulations).
• Interventional Radiology certificate preferred.
• 4–6 years’ related experience desirable; 1 year of experience preferred for candidates with ARRT.
• Working knowledge of interventional equipment (including C-Arm and Ultrasound equipment).
• Experience with interventional procedures, including using, ordering, and maintaining required materials/supplies.
• Knowledge and experience with sterile techniques.
• Knowledge of universal precautions and personal protective devices for radiology systems.
• BLS certification required.
• Experience with monitoring and maintaining inventory.
• Proficient in the use of computers and related software such as Microsoft Office (Word & Excel).

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Work environment is characteristic of a healthcare facility with controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels.
• May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.
• Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and perform patient transfers and positioning of patients up to 400 pounds.
• Must be able to stand in a protective apron for up to 45–60 minutes.
• 10% travel required.
