Interventional Radiology Technologist I

This specialty certified technologist assists in the performance of diagnostic, interventional and therapeutic radiologic and ultrasonic guided imaging procedures. Highly trained in working in surgical-type work environments and specifically trained to work in a sterile field.

Responsibilities

• Maintain competence in assisting during physician-supervised procedures with proper sterile preparation of patient access areas, procedure trays, and miscellaneous supplies and devices used during the procedure.
• Ensure proper documentation of the use of contrast material and appropriate documentation related to patient charges.
• Maintain professional, clinical, and technical competency to perform radiologic diagnostic imaging procedures incorporating access techniques for vascular (arterial and venous), spinal, neurological, and general chest, abdomen, pelvis, and extremity locations.
• Complete mandatory educational assignments as provided by the supervisor, nurse manager, or director.
• Follow all organizational policies regarding confidentiality, HIPAA, and maintaining a safe and protected work environment.
• Report any action detrimental to co-workers, patients, physicians, and the organization.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment; properly clean rooms and equipment prior to each procedure.
• Closely follow and maintain organizational policies for infection reduction.
• Maintain required state and national licensure as a technologist, certification for life support response, and IV competence.
• Understand and utilize the inventory tracking system; order supplies when necessary.
• Maintain proper radiation protection (apron, thyroid, glasses) and ensure the personal radiation monitoring device is worn appropriately at all times during procedures.
• Participate in patient safety by engaging in “time out” procedures, post-procedure “huddles,” and abiding by organizational policies related to the Culture of Safety.
• Participate in regular on-call responsibilities and frequently work overtime to provide coverage and complete patient care needs.
• Participate in the training process for technologist preceptorship and assist Radiology residents as requested.
• Perform the professional, clinical, and technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Requirements

• High School Graduate
• 1 or more years of previous experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, or Electrophysiology Lab

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Radiologic Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, Vascular Technology, or a healthcare-related field (preferred)
• Bachelors Degree in a healthcare-related field (preferred)
• Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
• Radiography (R) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
• Licensed Radiologic Technologist (LRT) - State Board of Healing Arts within 90 days
• Second language preferred
