Responsibilities

  • Oversees/teaches scheduled classes
  • Documents teaching performance objectives according to district guidelines
  • Plans and implements instructional programs
  • Ensures lesson plans align with adopted courses of study and are consistent with IEPs
  • Makes teaching materials, class lists, and classroom procedures readily available for substitutes
  • Creates effective learning experiences for all students through instruction and use of learning materials and equipment
  • Uses relevant technology to support instruction
  • Carrries out assigned duties related to the general welfare of the students (e.g., safety precautions, self-help needs, etc.)
  • Provides parents/families/caregivers with educational guidance including information/strategies to reinforce skills learned in school
  • Identifies problems that may impede learning and/or the social integration of students
  • Helps identify families that may need intervention services
  • Facilitates the transition process for students entering or leaving the alternative education program
  • Implements effective pupil management by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  • Makes referrals for student assistance/intervention when a need is identified
  • Mets mandated deadlines for required paperwork
  • Works with team members to develop a plan
  • Helps prepare and implement IEPs for students meeting eligibility requirements
  • Varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles
  • Facilitates the use of critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills
  • Collaborate with other teachers to share knowledge and resources that enhance student learning
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of student progress and development
  • Updates all necessary information accurately and completely as required by law and district policies
  • Evaluates student achievement/performance and assigns grades
  • Prepares progress reports and consults with parents as needed
  • Consults with support personnel to address student concerns
  • Works with supervisors and staff to eliminate unacceptable or unsafe conditions or behaviors
  • Provides direction and training to assigned classroom assistants or student aides
  • Participates in conferences, staff meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education
  • Valid Ohio license or permit appropriate for the assignment – Intervention Specialist, Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Intensive teaching field
  • Previous experience working with students with developmental disabilities and/or emotional and behavioral disorders is preferred
