Interpreter – Rohingya
About the role
The Rohingya Interpreter position at the IRC involves providing accurate, impartial, and confidential interpretation services to Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals and their service providers. This role requires proficiency in English and the language(s) spoken by the client group, typically Rohingya. Services can be provided in-person, via telephone, videoconference, or other virtual means.
Responsibilities
- Provide accurate, impartial, and confidential interpretation to LEP individuals and service providers in various settings such as clinics, hospitals, schools, community-based organizations, and government agencies.
- Track assignments and work hours using designated software.
- Participate in trainings and assessments.
- Support special projects and initiatives as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma strongly preferred.
- Relevant professional interpretation experience preferred.
- Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to build trust with clients, colleagues, and partners.
- Spoken proficiency in the language(s) spoken by the client group is required; proficiency in Rohingya is essential.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in work product.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
- Reliable transportation to appointment locations.
