Internship, Thermal Design Engineer, Electronic Devices (Winter/Spring 2027)
This position is expected to start January 2027 and continue through Spring term (ending approximately May 2027 or later, if available). Preference for candidates who are able to commit to 8 months but we ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.
About the team
The AI Electronics Product Design team is responsible for thermal management of various components across Tesla platforms including Vehicles and Data Centers.
Responsibilities
- Analytical approach to heat transfer and fluid flow problems based on first principles
- CFD modelling of heat transfer and fluid flow
- Develop innovative approaches to enhance all forms of heat transfer in various modules
- Test and Validation of the electronic systems across all low voltage electronics
- Validation performed on bench top modules in the lab (requires familiarity with instrumentation, and data acquisitions systems)
- Data analysis and providing summary reports is essential
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Thermal Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or thermals-related field
- Strong understanding of fundamentals of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics
- Experience in CFD and developing numerical models of thermal/fluid systems at any level
- Passionate about electro-mechanical product design, creative problem solving, and finding simple solutions to complex mechanical and thermal challenges
- Hands-on experience with mechanical or thermal testing and data analysis through projects, research or internships
- Strong teamwork, communication and presentation skills

Pay
Expected compensation: $20.00 - $50.00/hour + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
