Internship Program - MSW/MFT Intern - Outreach
The Position
LA Family Housing is accepting MSW/MFT Interns for the 2026-2027 calendar year to work in our Outreach, Permanent Supportive Housing, Interim Housing, and Housing Stabilization Departments.
- Learn to apply academic training to field-based practice as you provide hands-on services and collaborate with various clinical teams.
- Engage, assess, and assist with developing care plans and providing intensive field-based clinical services while learning of and implementing Housing First, Harm Reduction, and Trauma-informed principles.
- Maintain ongoing communication with service providers including outside agencies, medical personnel, community therapists, psychiatrists, protective services, and funding programs to ensure services needed by participants are provided.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed, under direct supervision of a field preceptor and field instructor.
- Develop and maintain relationships with collaborating staff and outside partnering and collaborating agencies.
- Engage community-based organizations and social service partners in Service Area 2 to assist in reaching program and participant goals.
- Provide appropriate advocacy on participants' behalf.
- Complete and submit documentation as required by school, LAFH contracts, and performance standards.
- Drive personal vehicle in and around Los Angeles County and drive agency vehicles to transport participants.
- Perform additional tasks, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by field instructor or preceptor.
What You're Skilled At
- Proficient in Microsoft Programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
- Able to perform electronic data entry
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a team
- Maintain and execute confidential information according to HIPPA standards
- Ability to work with diverse population
- Obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification
- Comfortable in a pet-friendly environment
- Travel is a regular duty for this position
- Use of a personal vehicle to travel between worksites and other locations is required
- Must have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License and auto insurance in good standing
- Work a 9/80 work schedule, if applicable

- Potential physical demands include but are not limited to: walking, climbing stairs, handling, finger/grasp/feel objects and equipment, reaching, communicating, being mobile, repetitive motions, visual activity, driving, and entering buildings.
- Comfortable working in a pet-friendly environment required.
