Internship, Industrial Design, Design Studio (Winter/Spring 2027)

This position is expected to start around January 2027 and continue through the entire Spring term (ending approximately May 2027 or later, if available). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. International students: if your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours/week before applying.

About the Team

The design team at Tesla conceives products that directly support the company’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. We care greatly about building products that stand the test of time, even as design and technology keep evolving. The industrial design team designs and develops all products that carry the Tesla brand, except for vehicles. You will be involved with energy products, charging products, vehicle accessories, environments, packaging and on-product graphics. The scope of the work will range from hand sketches and renderings to 3D CAD modelling and building physical prototypes.

Location: Tesla Design Studio – Hawthorne, CA

Responsibilities

• Provide creative and relevant conceptual thinking for a variety of projects
• Utilize Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create visual presentations and design assets
• Communicate designs through hand-sketching, rendering, and other visual storytelling techniques
• Create detailed 3D CAD models using software such as SolidWorks, Alias, or Rhino to support design development
• Engage in hands-on foam sculpting and physical prototyping
• Collaborate cross-functionally with 3D digital modeling, engineering, retail development, and marketing teams to deliver effective and design solutions
• Assist with graphic design tasks when needed, using a good eye for layout and visuals

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Design or a related field
• Humble, professional, and positive can-do attitude
• Previous internship and/or project experience is a plus

Pay

Expected compensation: $20.00 - $50.00/hour + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
