On-siteEngineering$20–$50/hrInternship
About the role
This position is expected to start around January 2027 and continue through the entire Spring term (ending approximately May 2027 or later, if available). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. International students must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site.
Responsibilities
Your application will be considered across all opportunities for the following teams:
- Battery Electronics: Design state-of-the-art Battery Management Boards (BMBs) & High-Voltage-Controller (HVC) printed circuit boards (PCBs) for Tesla’s lineup of automotive and energy products. These PCBs perform battery management (voltage & temperature monitoring, cell balancing), powertrain safety management, and charging control functions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design BMBs & HVCs from concept to mass production, contribute new technology ideas, and own end-to-end design across vehicle and energy product lines.
- Interiors Engineering: Push the boundaries of lighting, switches, and haptics technology. Design, simulate, implement, and debug systems and circuits used in Tesla vehicles. Experiment with and develop novel solutions to complex electrical problems in interior systems. Work closely with cross-functional hardware and software engineers on advanced systems and own the electrical design from prototype to production.
- Drive Inverter: Design the power electronics that move Tesla’s cars—quickly, efficiently, and reliably. Deliver component designs for high-voltage power electronics, low-voltage circuits, controls, functional safety, thermal management, and mechanical packaging to ensure system-level performance of traction inverters.

- Experience with at least one PCB design software as part of academic projects or coursework.
- Proven interest in electrical design engineering through extracurricular activities, academic projects, passion projects, or equivalent experiences (automotive or sustainability interest is a plus).
- Strong understanding of analog, digital circuit design, and high-voltage power electronics design.
- Experience with low-voltage or high-voltage and/or high-frequency power domains is a plus.
- Experience with modeling and simulation, test automation, scripting, and data analysis.
- Experience working in a lab setting and using modern measurement techniques is a plus.
- Experience debugging embedded systems or writing firmware is a plus.
- Fundamental knowledge of batteries and/or solar, especially in conjunction with electronics, is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with soldering, quick prototyping, PCBA rework, troubleshooting, and failure analysis.
- Excellent grasp of engineering fundamentals.
- Genuine curiosity and willingness to understand how products are designed, built, and operated.
- Eagerness to collaborate cross-functionally with other engineering teams while able to work independently; detail-oriented and execution-focused.
