About the role
The Trade Compliance Specialist will execute and maintain the import and export trade compliance program at Ball Horticultural Company, with a high emphasis on live, perishable shipments from international production facilities to North America for multimodal delivery.
Responsibilities
- Ensure company compliance with domestic and foreign import and export requirements to maintain the ability to import products into the USA while adhering to laws.
- Monitor weekly movement of live perishables from offshore facilities and provide expert assistance to airport partners/vendors during customs and USDA/APHIS inspections to prevent shipment delays.
- Oversee and guide operations teams on day-to-day compliance matters, including documentation, shipment holds, HTS classification, custom broker management, and export compliance.
- Ensure legal compliance with trade laws, including securing appropriate licensing and import permits for live perishables to the USA and Canada.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on U.S. and international import/export requirements to resolve issues and improve internal team self-sufficiency.
- Review, respond to, and escalate government inquiries related to trade compliance.
- Collaborate with global team members on compliance reviews for new product offerings and market introductions.
- Interface with government agencies on new preferential trade programs and facility certifications.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of import/export administration experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field.
- Extensive knowledge of U.S. import and export control laws and regulations.
- Customs Broker License is a plus.
- High accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to interact with cross-functional teams (USDA/APHIS, import agents, customers, sales, internal stakeholders) to resolve importation issues.
- Familiarity with USDA/APHIS processes for importing live perishables is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively to set and accomplish strategic goals.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 5% of the time.
- Ability to sit/stand 100% of the time.

Pay
Salary Range: $65,000 - $70,000
