About the role

Our client is a global distributor to the aviation industry who provides comprehensive solutions for aircraft supply chains. They have an immediate need for a Trade Compliance Manager to work on-site in their corporate office in Memphis. This position has one direct report who will handle the day to day functions, and we are seeking an interim consultant to develop, direct, and continuously improve the company's trade compliance program, ensuring compliance with relevant domestic and international trade laws while supporting effective import and export operations across the business. This position is an immediate need, and you will be a W-2 consultant of Gateway Group, working on-site at a corporate office in Memphis.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and continuously improve the trade compliance program, including policies, procedures, oversight, and internal controls.
  • Monitor import and export transactions and ensure compliance with domestic and international trade compliance requirements.
  • Oversee direct reports and third parties involved in import/export operations.
  • Engage with company leadership and the legal function on emerging trade compliance matters.
  • Partner cross-functionally to improve process effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Train employees on trade compliance matters.
  • May on occasion be required to perform duties other than those specified in this job description.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive subject matter expertise and experience in the oversight, implementation, and continuous improvement of a trade compliance program/function.
  • Familiarity with U.S. agency processes and systems used in filing and reporting the international movement of goods.
  • Working familiarity with commodity classification in aerospace or defense industries.
  • Experience obtaining export licenses and applying license exceptions.
  • Experience with drop shipments and routed transactions.
  • Extensive knowledge of sectoral sanctions and destination/end-user restrictions.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of EAR, OFAC, FTR, and USCBP requirements in the context of civil aircraft parts preferred
  • Experience with internal audits of trade compliance and other company procedures under a Quality Management System.

Education and Experience

Experience and demonstrated knowledge of: trade compliance, compliance department leadership, supply chain and shipping functions, customary logistic and freight forward practices and documents, customs regulations, export regulations and licensing/exceptions
