Departmental Objective: As the central clearinghouse of news and information, the Office of University Relations works closely with faculty, staff, alumni, and students to share “the CNU story” with local, regional, and national audiences. Through strategic integrated marketing, OCPR creates a unified image for the University and provides information through the media, the Web, and print materials to a variety of constituencies in a timely and effective manner. Creative services include marketing, public relations, media relations, electronic media, and graphic design.
Purpose of the Position
This position will manage and track all university print publications and serve as the lead graphic designer for the Office of Communications and Public Relations. This position will be the “front door” for campus customers seeking graphic design. This position will supervise the team of graphic designers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Related to Position
- Knowledge of contemporary design and its role in the development of organizational communications
- Knowledge of graphic art concepts and techniques
- Knowledge of printing, photography, and related production and publications processes
- Knowledge of public relations and marketing principles and practices
- Knowledge of web design
- Proficiency in graphic development software to include: QuarkXpress, Illustrator, and/or PhotoShop, or related software
- Skilled in project development from evaluating project needs to editing completed projects
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to independently create and develop graphic design concepts for marketing and communication objectives
- Ability to economically produce graphic design concepts and production art for publications
- Ability to communicate with vendors
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines
- Ability to evaluate production feasibility of designs, and to prepare schedules and cost estimates
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to inspire, educate, and otherwise supervise graphic designers
- Ability to gracefully and thoughtfully interact with many university partners who are design customers
- Ability to make independent decisions with little to moderate supervision
Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent education/experience that equates to a high school diploma
- Experience: Experience in graphic design and typography
Additional Consideration(s)
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training
- Experience: Management or supervisory experience
- Experience working at a university/college
- Experience with project development from inception to completion
- Experience in estimating printing projects and production costs (i.e., paper, colors, quantity, binding, special printing features, etc.)
Salary Information
Starting at $58,972 to $80,000, commensurate with education and experience

Conditions of Employment
- This is a classified position.
- New and returning classified employees are required to complete a 12-month probationary period.
- Selected candidate must attend a 2-day New Employee Orientation Program.

- This position is eligible for periodic telework as determined by the department. Eligibility is not guaranteed, and is subject to supervisor approval. Eligibility will depend on the likelihood of the employee’s success in a telework arrangement and the supervisor’s ability to manage telework.
