Internal Communications Specialist
About the role
Our client is seeking an Internal Communications Specialist to support on their internal communications team. This is a 7 month contract, 40 hours per week, with potential to extend. Candidates must be willing to go onsite 3+ days per week at one of their following office locations: Nashville, TN, Arlington, VA, or Seattle, WA.
This position will support proactive storytelling efforts focused on career growth, innovation, technology, and operational excellence. The Internal Communications Coordinator will assist with executing content production, editorial coordination, and operational deliverables as needed. They will work across multiple portfolios while building foundational infrastructure for these storytelling efforts such as editorial calendars, content libraries, messaging maps, and metrics reporting. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and storyteller who can help create content in support of compelling narratives across multiple channels, including intranet articles, newsletters, video scripts, social media content, and executive communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage editorial calendars across multiple communications portfolios, ensuring content is planned, tracked, and published on schedule.
- Develop and publish internal communications, including newsletters, employee stories, stakeholder updates, spotlight features, and field communications.
- Support proactive storytelling efforts by conducting interviews, developing content narratives, and elevating employee, innovation, and business-impact stories across multiple channels.
- Draft routine communications under manager supervision: field bulletins, newsletters, employee recognition stories, spotlight features, stakeholder updates.
- Format and publish content across a variety of platforms, including intranet, email, digital signage, video, and social channels.
- Build and maintain content and media asset libraries, including photography, video, templates, and approved messaging resources.
- Track and compile communications performance metrics, producing recurring engagement reports and insights to help inform content strategy.
- Support the development and maintenance of messaging frameworks, stakeholder communications, and content planning resources.
- Provide tactical communications support across additional portfolios as needed, including campaign execution, event coordination, content production, and publishing support as business needs evolve.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in internal communications, external communications, public relations, content marketing, journalism, or corporate storytelling.
- Demonstrated experience creating content for diverse audiences and communication channels, with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, engaging narratives.
- Strong writing, editing, and interviewing skills, with the ability to adapt messaging and tone for frontline, leadership, and corporate audiences.
- Experience working with content management systems, email publishing tools, editorial calendars, and communications workflows.
- Comfortable analyzing engagement metrics and compiling performance reports to measure communications effectiveness.
- Highly organized, self-directed professional with strong project management skills and the ability to proactively identify risks, remove obstacles, and manage competing priorities.
