Internal Communications Director
About the role
The Internal Communications Director is the senior internal communications leader for the U.S. Commercial and State and Local Government Strategic Business Unit (SBU), responsible for ensuring cohesive, visible, and effective communications that engage CGI professionals and managers.
Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of the SBU's internal communications strategy for CGI Partner and manager audiences.
Ensure narrative coherence across layered inputs from Global Marketing & Communications, Strategic Operations, HR, other Corporate Services teams and Business Units.
Support adoption and behavior-change initiatives by shaping communications that move CGI Partners from awareness to action.
Align communications to support the SBU's strategy to grow and retain talent, reinforcing our talent brand and employee value proposition within internal channels.
Establish and maintain an internal communications planning rhythm and calendar that brings cohesion and visibility to initiatives across the SBU.
Serve as the SBU representative within the Global Internal Communications community, ensuring alignment and effective localization of global initiatives.
Convene and lead a community of internal communications leads and contributors across the SBU. Foster information sharing, collaboration, and alignment across communications stakeholders who do not report directly to this role.
Promote shared standards, transparency, tools, and a cohesive internal experience across geographies and teams. Serve as a consultative partner to business-enabling functions, helping clarify purpose, audience, and desired outcomes before communications are developed.
Oversee SBU-level internal channels, including newsletters, Teams communities, executive mailboxes, and related distribution platforms. Ensure communications are timely, accurate, aligned with brand standards, and reflective of CGI's values.
Maintain and evolve processes that enable efficient intake, review, approval, and distribution of communications. Support ongoing modernization of internal communications platforms and ensure effective adoption and usage.
Collaborate closely with Talent Marketing to ensure authentic CGI Partner stories and experiences are surfaced internally and amplified. Contribute to a consistent narrative across grow, retain, and attract talent strategies. Shape messaging and storytelling that resonates with CGI Partners and reinforces our culture and priorities.
Co-lead communications strategy for SBU-level internal events such as Annual Tour, Town Hall, and special initiatives. Develop and oversee communications plans that build awareness, drive participation, and amplify post-event messaging. Partner with internal event leadership to ensure messaging, presentation materials, and activation strategies align with overall SBU priorities.
Define and monitor internal communications KPIs aligned to engagement and activation goals. Synthesize feedback and insights to improve clarity, effectiveness, and reach. Drive a culture of continuous improvement across internal communications practices.
Lead and develop a team of Internal Communications consultants, fostering a culture of collaboration, professional growth, and continuous improvement. Establish clear priorities and shared standards that support high-quality, thoughtful, and timely communications. Model a consultative, partnership-oriented mindset in all engagements across the organization.
Requirements
You are a seasoned internal communications leader and passionate problem solver who takes ownership of complex initiatives and sees them through to completion. You combine strong business acumen and executive presence with a roll-up-your-sleeves mindset, equally comfortable shaping high-level messaging and building communications materials yourself. Your attention to detail sets you apart, and the quality of your work is consistently strong. You communicate with clarity and confidence — both verbally and in writing — and are comfortable engaging and influencing stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- 10-15+ years of experience in internal communications, preferably within a professional services, B2B or complex, matrixed organization.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complexities and operational priorities into clear, compelling communications.
- Strong presentation development skills and advanced proficiency in PowerPoint.
- Experience partnering with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to drive alignment and engagement.
- A consultative mindset that emphasizes clarity of purpose, audience, and outcomes.
- Proven leadership experience managing and developing communications professionals.
- Strong project and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Experience operating within structured work management systems (e.g., Workfront) and driving clarity, prioritization, and visibility across a high-volume communications portfolio.
